Persuasive Strategies

For each of Maslow's needs, think of three persuasive topics that would appeal best (don't use the examples in the book!). For example, three topics that would work for Belongingness is join a club, go to a church, or wear pretty jewelry to attract the opposite sex. Due TOMORROW.

  1. Physiological: A Big Mac, Vitamin Water, or a house.
    Safety: Pepper spray, a car alarm, or a locked door.
    Belongingness: Deodorant, mints, or shampoo.
    Self- esteem: Raising money for charity, volunteering for the Salvation Army, or donating food to a homeless shelter.
    Self- actualization: Applying for college, joining the Peace Corps, or getting a promotion.

    1. Joining the military
    2. Taking a test that is really hard that you don't even have to take.
    3. Apply for a job that you think that would be hard to accomplish.

    Self Esteem:
    1. Compliment others
    2. Complimenting yourself
    3. Buy something that looks nice on you.

    Belongingness:
    1. Buy your friend something for the heck of it.
    2. Make a new friend.
    3. Open the door for someone.

    Safety:
    1. Putting your seatbelt on.
    2. Lock your doors at night.
    3. Get your license to carry so you can be strapped all the time.

    Physiological:
    1. Eat healthy.
    2. Drink water instead of pop.
    3. Take a shower.

    safety: life insurance, buckling your seat belt, or wearing a helmet when riding a bike.
    belongingness: wear perfume to smell good and attract people, wearing makeup to look pretty, or using mouthwash so you don't repel people with bad breath.
    self-esteem: exercising, helping others, or doing good on a test.
    self-actualization: training for a sport, training for a job you want, or getting a promotion.
